Early Western traveler whether to India, Persia, Turkey or China would frequent remark on the absence of change in fashion in those country. The Japan secretary bragged to a Spanish visitor in 1609 that Japanese cloth had not changed in over a thousand year. The most dramatic early change in fashion was a sudden drastic shortening and tightening of the male or over garment  from calf length to barely covering the buttocks.  The beginning in Europe of continual and increasingly rapid change in cloth style can be fairly reliable dated.

This created the distinctive Western outline of a tailor top worn over leggings or trouser and one of the popular historical fashion was often referred to as the "plume Boom" the popular of wearing real feather in hats reached its peak in the early 20th century.  This caused a huge decline in the bird population and even led to the extinction of some. WilliamWorkaday, director of the new York Zoo logical society and formerly, chief taxidermist  at the Smithsonian, said that in a short nine month period the London feather market used up to the 130 thousand Egret birds.

The idea of unisex dressing originated in the 1960 when designer such as Pierre Cardin created garments, such as stretch jersey tunics or leggings, meant to be worth by male and females.  The impact of unisex expands more broadly to encompass various themes in fashion include trends of the 1970 such as sheepskin jackets.
